Maniac Mother Teresa

Modern Family was a rerun this week, but considering I missed it the first time around it was new to me. Luckily this particular episode turned out to be one of the funniest so far.

Cameron and Mitchell were running late to a puppet show for their daughter when they see the gardener crying. Cam takes pity on this poor man and invites him in with hilarious broken Spanish. The phrase “maniac Mother Teresa” is used and it was awesome. What follows is a slew of family members of the gardener arriving at the house and Cam ends up hosting a Mexican wedding in his and Mitchell’s living room.

Gloria hates the new life sized dog butler statue Jay brought back from Las Vegas and calls it the devil. Several quick scenes show her walking past it forgetting it is there and then freaking out and screaming at it. This plot was cleverly written with Gloria walking in on Jay talking at wrong parts of his conversation, leading her to believe he’s in love with and wants to marry the dog. In the end Jay pawns the statue off to Cam and Mitchell, and Cam does a hilarious voice for the dog as Mitchell forces him to sell it to a thrift shop. My love for Cameron knows no end!

Clair finds a dirty picture on the family laptop and accuses Luke of looking at it, but in reality it was a forward to Phil he got from a coworker. Phil lets Luke take the fall until finally it is realized who the real porn king is. Phil apologizes to Luke and in the end Clair really isn’t that mad anymore. I promise you this story was way funnier that I described it as.

The one complaint, no Manny in this episode!

Family of Cougars

“I am a mama bear!” Cameron, of course, had problems letting sweet little Lilly cry in her crib until she fell asleep so what does he do? He watches Scarface with her. Horrifying and awesome all at the same time. Thank goodness Modern Family came back from hiatus without ever missing a beat, but let’s be honest did we ever doubt it would?

Cougar Town on the other hand was a little sickening. It was funny, but they just punched me in the face so many times with the fact that Lisa Kudrow would be guesting and they even went so far as to play the jingle from Friends in the promos. We get it. Lisa and Courtney used to be on an insanely popular sitcom and were best friends, but now in this episode they are mean and hate each other. Jules needs to watch out because you can’t keep treating your current lovers like shit forever. Someone younger and less crazy will come by and snatch the stroller.

Merry Christmas, Fizbo!

First Cameron was revealed to be an avid footballer, then an ass-kicking birthday clown, and just when you think he can’t get even more awesome, it turns out in last night’s episode that Cameron has a bittersweet relationship with a group of holiday carolers who kicked him out last season. In a hilarious turn of events, came spent last night’s Modern Family shouting “Son of a bitch!” over and over at the group and then had an ex-con Santa he accidentally got fired punch out the lead guy in the group. Love it. He is probably one of the characters I will miss most during the long, cold, winter hiatus.

Cameron!!

I’ve got to show some love to one my personal favorite new characters on television, Cameron from ABC’s Modern Family. He is a scene stealer every time and gets all the great lines and scenarios. How can you not love a guy who dresses his child up in a mini diva wig or enters the room in Lion King style, child hoisted high above his head, to introduce his new daughter to the family? Plus, major props to him for not smacking Mitchel every time he gets all elitist. Cameron just rolls with the punches and uses his undeniable charm to smooth things over.

Last night alone was full of great Cam moments, especially when he came running towards the car he thought his baby was locked inside of with a trashcan screaming “I’m gonna break the window! I’m gonna break the window!” Also hilarious was his foot in mouth scene at the doctor’s office with the Asian doctor from Denver. Another great Cameron scene? Back in the daycare episode when he gave the awesome, spot on Meryl Streep rant. “Meryl Streep is perfection. She could play Batman and it would be the right choice.” Amazing. And true.

So here’s to you, Cameron, whatever your last name is. Keep bringing on the funny and hopefully we’ll soon get a flaming Hollywood queen to guest star as your mother.
